Ireland will likely experience some snow in the days ahead with temperatures expected to drop towards the end of the week.
Met Eireann is forecasting rain or patchy drizzle every day, some of which will turn into wintry showers in certain areas.
While temperatures will be predominantly mild for most of the week, they are expected to plummet on Thursday.
Sleet and snow are forecast that day, as well as Friday, before the milder conditions return at the weekend.
It is expected that the snow will fall mainly in Ulster and that hilly or mountainous areas will see the majority of flurries.
Before then, the rest of Monday will be primarily dry, although scattered showers will continue across Ulster.
It will be generally cloudy with light patchy rain and drizzle developing, mainly affecting the north and northwest, especially during the evening, with highest temperatures of 7 to 10C.
It will be generally cloudy on Monday night with patchy rain or drizzle, mainly in Ulster. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 9C, possibly lower under clear spells in the south and east.
As for the rest of the week, a forecaster said: "Blustery [on Tuesday] and generally cloudy with patchy light rain or drizzle at times. Some bright or sunny spells may occur across Ulster. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13C.
Many areas will have a mostly dry and cloudy night [on Tuesday], but there will be some patchy drizzle, especially in the north. Westerly winds will ease light to moderate. Mild, with lowest temperatures of 7 to 9C.
"A decent amount of dry weather to start [Wednesday], with some drizzle in parts. Generally cloudy, with occasional brighter periods. Drizzle will turn more persistent in western parts through the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 9 to 11C.
"Some rain and drizzle will spread eastwards to most areas from the west overnight as southerly winds freshen. Dry periods also. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 8C."
Met Eireann predicts that the last two days of the week will see some snow in certain areas, although this will largely be confined to the northwest of the country.
A forecaster said for Thursday: "Rain, heavy at times, will move into the northwest during the morning, before spreading southeastwards across the country to all areas during the day. It will become windier and may be squally at times as southwest winds increase fresh to strong and gusty.
"Highs of 9 to 12C, occurring early in the day. Winds will veer westerly later as drier, clearer and colder weather develops in the north and west.
"Lingering rain will clear southern areas early in the night as clear spells develop. A cold night with lows of 0 to +4C. Scattered showers will feed in from the northwest, some may be of hail or sleet, with snow possible on mountains in Ulster. Moderate to fresh and gusty westerly winds.
"Cold and breezy with showers and bright or sunny intervals [on Friday]. There will be some hail or sleet showers in the morning, mainly in Ulster. Showers will ease later in the day as westerly winds ease. Highs of 5 to 8C.
"Currently it looks like it will become milder and cloudier again over the weekend with showers. Showers will mainly affect northern areas with drier weather further south. Breezy at times too, in a westerly airflow."
