Will Ferrell delights fans at hockey game by dressing up as Buddy the Elf

Will Ferrell dressed up as his beloved character Buddy the Elf from the 2003 Christmas movie Elf while attending a hockey match in Los Angeles at the weekend.

The actor, 57, was hard to spot dressed in Buddy’s trademark green elf suit complete with pointed hat as he watched the Philadelphia Flyers go head-to-head with home team the Los Angeles Kings.

Classic flick Elf follows Ferrell’s character who was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised to adulthood among Santa's elves. After one day discovering that he’s not really an elf and unable to shake the feeling that he doesn’t fit in, the enthusiastic and child-like Buddy travels to New York in hopes of finding his birth father and a place that he belongs.

While Ferrell has previously ruled out making an official sequel to Elf, his appearance at the hockey game suggests that the years have not been kind to buddy.

The Despicable Me 4 star looked quite disheveled and had what appeared to be a cigarette hanging out of his mouth. While Buddy was all about glugging soft drinks back in the day, he seemed to have opted for an alcoholic beverage.

Regardless, he was a very welcome addition to the festivities with the Kings sharing a video of him on social media.

“BUDDY THE ELF IS OFFICIALLY IN #HOCKEYWOOD,” the team captioned its post on X, formerly Twitter.

His presence seemed to act as a good luck charm for them, with the Kings winning 5-4, marking the team’s seventh straight home victory.

Ferrell is no stranger to embracing his most beloved characters, having dressed up as Ron Burgundy from 2004 comedy Anchorman and its 2013 follow-up, Anchorman 2, on multiple occasions.
