Wilfried Zaha transfer claim made after Crystal Palace star's performance against Aston Villa

BBC pundit Garth Crooks says he would like to see Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha play European football.

The Palace forward netted twice for the Eagles as Patrick Vieira's side recorded their first Premier League win of the season on Saturday, defeating Aston Villa 3-1 at Selhurst Park to move up to ninth in the table, with four points from their three league games to date this term.

His brace took his tally to three for the campaign, having scored in a 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield last week, with Zaha looking to try and beat his record of 14 goals in a single season in the Premier League, which he registered last term.

Zaha's performance against Villa has earned him a place in Crooks' team of the week for the BBC website, with the former Tottenham and Stoke City forward offering his verdict on the Ivory Coast international as he suggested that not many teams can live with him at his best.

"I thought [Wilfried] Zaha took his goal extremely well against Liverpool at Anfield in midweek and really should have gone on to win the game for Crystal Palace based on the chances he had," Crooks said. "However, against Aston Villa this unpredictable and impulsive talent tore the visitors to shreds. When Zaha is in this mood there is very little a team can do to stop him.

"I think the problem for Patrick Vieira, and the reason the Ivorian has not moved to a top four club is that the player doesn't do what he does best often enough. Personally, I would like to see Zaha playing European football and put his talents really to the test. It would be nice to know how good this lad really is."

Zaha is not expected to be involved this evening (Tuesday) as Palace face League One side Oxford United in the second round of the Carabao Cup, but he could feature for the Eagles again on Saturday against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
