Wilfried Zaha to Arsenal transfer: Unai Emery input, contract stance, transfer dream admission

Arsenal's summer transfer window got off to a rapid start, with technical director Edu signing five players in the first six weeks.

Marquinhos, Matt Turner, Fabio Vieira, Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko all arrived in north London for a combined £110 million but there have been no arrivals in the last three weeks. Still, the Gunners continue to be linked with a number of wingers, including Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha.

The Ivorian international was outstanding throughout the 2021/22 season, and football.london has now rounded up all the latest speculation linking the 29-year-old with a move to the Emirates Stadium.

New links to the winger

Transfer guru Dean Jones has claimed that Zaha is also an option for technical director Edu. Speaking about Arsenal's options on The Done Deal Show, Jones said: "They’re not the only two names they’re looking at (Neto and Pino). In the background, there is Wilfried Zaha.

"That deal is not moving forward at the moment, but Zaha is definitely one of those players that ticks the boxes and that Arsenal have an eye on. We will have to wait and see if they go down that path, Zaha is obviously in red-hot form at the moment."

Emery wanted to sign the Ivorian for Arsenal

Emery wanted Zaha then and revealed exclusively to football.london why in 2021 . He said: "I usually want to sign first the players I know there. When we played against Crystal Palace, Zaha showed he was a very good player.

"I also think Nicolas Pepe is a very good player. When you make the decision you have to decide how easy the adaption will be of some players. I was thinking the adaption was easier for Zaha because he was playing in the Premier League and you didn’t know exactly how fast Nicolas Pepe can adapt to the Premier League because I know you can need some time to adapt. I was thinking at this time that the adaption of Zaha was probably easier and faster than Pepe."

Zaha admitted he supports Arsenal

A video emerged on social media of Zaha being interviewed by Italian journalist Alessandro Schiavone in 2017. And when asked which team the Palace star supported as a child, he said: "Arsenal. Still do."

Crystal Palace contract situation

Zaha’s contract now only has one-year remaining. This gives the Brazilian a chance to sign the Ivorian winger for a cut-price fee as Crystal Palace will want to avoid losing him on a free transfer.

Daily Mail reported earlier in the season that Crystal Palace are willing to sell the winger in the summer as they feel they’re finally in a position to cope without him with Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze in their ranks.
