Wildfires forced evacuations on the Greek island of Kefalonia on Sunday as flames spread close to homes. Firefighting aircraft carried out water drops while crews worked to protect inland communities. In western Attica, near Athens, another large blaze threatened residential areas and an industrial zone outside Megara. Strong winds made the response far more difficult, preventing some aircraft from collecting water from the sea. Around 500 firefighters and 23 aircraft were deployed. Authorities also ordered evacuations in Kandili, Agia Skepi and Toutouli, while emergency services closely monitored the coastal community of Porto Germeno.
