Wild camping site owner left stunned after tourists 'surprised' to see sheep

The owner of a wild camping site in Wales has been left gobsmacked after receiving a complaint about a very Welsh feature - sheep.

Llŷr Jones runs the Mynydd Derwydd wild camping at Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr, which boasts beautiful views of the Welsh countryside, as well as being home to 1,200 woolly creatures. He said he has never received a complaint about the animals until last week.

Guests staying at the site were not impressed by the sheep, which they said they were 'surprised' to see around their tent, and said were interrupting their sleep, reports NorthWalesLive.

The campers asked: "We would really like to have a night of uninterrupted sleep and so hope there is a way to make sure the sheep are in a different field tonight."

Llŷr was unsure how to answer them and put their request out on social media. There were plenty of responses - not all helpful.

One suggested that "'Wild Camping' may not be for them" and another to "Count them tonight to fall asleep". A third said: "If I set up a tent in their back garden, would they like it if I complained at them about the noise they make?"

In the end Llŷr settled on replying that "scientific studies have proven that sheep are actually of huge benefit to people suffering from sleep deprivation and at Derwydd Wild Camping we like to place huge emphasis on people's well-being."

He added: "Should this issue arise again tonight I suggest you open the tent and walk into the field and begin counting them."

He did then offer an alternative solution, saying: "Joking aside I'm afraid we can't move the sheep from their field. But happy to relocate you to a field with no sheep."

He told North Wales Live: "They didn’t have a sense of humour as this afternoon they left.

"I’ve been doing it for a few years and we have had hundreds of people staying here. She’s the first to complain about the sheep so I’m not really bothered what she thinks."
