Wigan indie band The Lathums score second UK number one album

Wigan band, The Lathums, have secured a second UK number one in the Official Charts with their album 'From Nothing To A Little Bit More'.

The album, which was released on March 3, topped the UK chart, beating off competition from the likes of Northampton rapper slowthai and singer-songwriter Mimi Webb. The Wigan rockers previously topped the Official Albums Chart with 2021 debut studio record 'How Beautiful Life Can Be', dethroning Canadian superstar Drake from the top spot.

The top position means the four-piece have now achieved a feat of back-to-back Number One albums alongside peers such as Arctic Monkeys and Blossoms. The band, made up of Alex Moore, Scott Concepcion, Ryan Durrans and Matty Murphy, formed in 2018 when they met at The Music Project in Pemberton.

On Wednesday, frontman Alex Moore posted a video on Twitter thanking fans for their support, and asked for one "final push" to help them secure the number one spot. In the video he said: "Hello loves, it's you mate Alex here, just popping in.

"I want to start by saying thank you so so much everybody that's supported us so far and the album is going very, very well, and we're in a chart battle at the moment and it's looking likely that we could get number, but it's not a done deal at all.

"Anything you think you could give to us, to help us get a number one, just anything you think you're happy with helping us with, it would be a massive, massive deal to us. Just the fact that people are getting behind us so, I'm not bothered by the material, it's what we've done together so far and what we can continue doing together, it's amazing.

"We're knocking so many people of pedestals and we're breaking records and it's all because of you, but we just need this final little push now, but everything you've done so far, we appreciate so so much so thank you, all of our love, and what ever happens, we'll see you very, very soon."

Earlier this year, the band announced their biggest show to date will take place in Manchester this summer as part of the Castlefield Bowl gig series. They'll return to Sounds of the City as headliners on Friday, June 30 - two years after appearing as special guests for Snow Patrol.

Their Castlefield Bowl headline show is regarded as a natural next step for fans who have witnessed their ascent from small venues and pubs to headlining venues including Manchester’s 02 Victoria Warehouse and Blackpool Empress Ballroom. The four-piece, also toured European arena stages last year in support of The Killers and Kasabian, as well as heading out on their debut US tour.

The Lathums Live at Castlefield Bowl will take place on Friday, June 30. and tickets for the gig are now on sale.
