Kim Van Gundy, the wife of ex-NBA coach and current TNT broadcaster Stan Van Gundy, died unexpectedly on Aug. 16 at age 61.
Kim was married to Stan for 35 years. They first met in 1984 when she was studying at Castleton State College in Vermont, where Stan was the head basketball coach. They wed in 1988 and had four children together.
Kim’s sister Catherine released a statement to the New York Post, confirming her sister’s death.
“I lost my big sister Kimberley Abbott Van Gundy on Wednesday,” she wrote. “She was one of my favorite people and I will forever miss her. Rest in peace, Kim.”
Kim Van Gundy’s cause of death was not announced. In addition to her husband and children, she’s survived by her mother, father, two sisters, two brothers and 13 nieces and nephews.
Stan Van Gundy served as an NBA head coach for 13 seasons with the Heat, Magic, Pistons and Pelicans, compiling a 554-425 career record.
