A woman says she chose to divorce her husband after finding out that he 'settled' for her when they first started dating - because he didn't get his 'first choice', which was her best friend. Taking to Reddit's popular 'TrueOffMyChest' forum, the anonymous woman says her 'world came crashing down' when her hubby of 10 years made the heart-breaking admission.
Explaining the very beginning of their relationship, the woman wrote: "My husband and I met when I was 18. It had always been just me and my best friend but when my husband came along we became an inseparable trio.
"For me it was love at first sight. I had the biggest crush on him but didn't want to ruin the friendship thing we had so I kept it to myself until he confessed to me when we were 20."
She went on to say that things progressed quickly and they got married two years later. She says her best friend also tied the knot with her partner and all four of them remained close.
However, everything swiftly changed when the woman invited her best friend and her husband to dinner. She said: "We were joking about the things we got up to and my husband brought up how he had always had a crush on my best friend, but then she got a boyfriend. So he settled for me instead."
She added: "My whole world just came crashing down. I realised my marriage of 10 years was him settling for second best. That I was never his first option."
She claims that after the disastrous dinner, everything her husband did started to "annoy" her and "he just stopped being attractive to me". She went on to admit that they pair had not slept together in six months, "because I feel so disgusted".
She continued: "I just want out. I feel like I've wasted my life. I'm disappointed in him and myself for believing I was the one he liked."
Many fellow Reddit users rushed to comment on the post with messages of sympathy and support. One commenter, DeliciousLobster68, replied: "Oh no. I'm so sorry that happened. Your ex has to be to biggest a******."

Dinomumma420101113 asked: "Did he actually use the words that he settled for you?", to which the woman replied: "Yes." The user then said: "Wow that’s harsh. I’m sorry that happened. I hope you can move forward and be happy. Everyone deserves to be someone’s number one choice."
Another user, Likewoahjill, shared their own experience: "My ex husband said this about me too. I’m still dealing with the self esteem issues from him. I have a new bf who is super sweet to me, but I feel I need a lot of validation from him. Just like I supply him with lots of compliments and validation, I expect it in return. He’s not good at it and it’s making me question myself and our relationship."
