A widow has called on the UK to change its euthanasia laws after she said her terminally-ill husband "reluctantly" travelled to Switzerland to end his life. UK laws do not allow assisted dying so Anne Norfolk's husband, 65, had to end his own life in a foreign country in 2012.
He was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) four years earlier. "There is no way he wanted to die abroad," Anne said. He didn't think he should have to. He wanted to die in his own garden."
Instead the couple, from Farnham, Surrey, along with their two adult daughters, had to travel to the country where assisted dying is legal. Also known as euthanasia, the practise is illegal here and anyone helping another person to die could be prosecuted for murder or manslaughter, reports Surrey Live.
