Colin Kelly's brief reign as Wicklow senior football manager has come to an end after he stepped down last night.
A statement from Wicklow GAA said that the decision came “due to a change in work commitments” on Kelly’s part.
The former Louth and Westmeath boss has only overseen four League games since succeeding Davy Burke in the role ahead of the 2022 season, with Wicklow currently bottom of Division Three after a draw and three defeats.
Wicklow chairman Martin Fitzgerald extended “a huge thanks to Colin for working unbelievably hard since taking on the role” and added that “I know that everyone in Wicklow GAA wishes Colin every future success”.
The Wicklow executive will now meet to try and draw up a plan to find Kelly’s successor, an unenviable task given that many potential candidates are probably already committed to roles at club or county level for the season ahead.
Wicklow’s next outing in the Allianz League is a home tie against Laois on Sunday week followed by ties against Longford (away) and Louth (home) as they bid to avoid relegation.
They open their Leinster Championship campaign with a preliminary round tie against Laois in Aughrim on April 24.
