After the festivities of Christmas and new year, January is not usually a month for celebration, but that will not be the case for musical fans following the announcement Wicked will return to Bristol in 2024. A major 10-city tour in UK and Ireland was announced today [Friday, Nov 18] and the critically acclaimed touring production will fly back to Bristol Hippodrome for just over a month from Tuesday, January 23 to Sunday, February 25 in 2024.
The highly anticipated West End and Broadway musical has received rave reviews in the past for its incredible storytelling of Witches of Oz. Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, Wicked imagines a beguiling backstory and future possibilities to the lives of L. Frank Baum’s beloved characters from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and reveals the decisions and events that shape the destinies of two unlikely university friends on their journey to becoming Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
Ben Phillips, theatre director of The Bristol Hippodrome, adds: “It is an absolute pleasure to have this gravity-defying performance back in Bristol once again. I was the Theatre Director for several years at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, Wicked’s London home, so this show holds a very special place in my heart and welcoming it to my current venue is like being reunited with a dear friend.”

Wicked executive producer, (UK and Ireland) Michael McCabe, said: “We are proud to be bringing Wicked back to the magnificent Bristol Hippodrome where incredible audiences greeted us during two previous sold-out engagements. We’re excited to have this opportunity to share once again the spectacle, magic and emotion that has created unforgettable memories for audiences in Bristol and all around the world.”
Wicked sold over 140,000 tickets across its two celebrated previous engagements in 2015 and 2018 and has been dubbed “one of the most successful musicals of all time” by BBC News. In a previous review, Bristol Post said “this truly magical show will leave you spellbound”.
Tickets go on public sale from 10am on Monday 30 January 2023 at www.atgtickets.com/venues/bristol-hippodrome/ .
