Why was MrBeast ‘announced’ as the new Oscars host at the end of Sunday’s show?

The 2026 Academy Awards ceremony featured a sketch implying that YouTube personality MrBeast could become the future host.
The gag involved Conan O'Brien being promoted to permanent host, only to be comically incinerated, with his office plaque then replaced by MrBeast.
This humorous segment directly referenced the Oscars' upcoming move to YouTube, which is set to commence from 2029, ending its traditional broadcast.
Conan O'Brien further leaned into the theme during his opening, calling himself “the last human host of the Academy Awards”.
The sketch was a satirical comment on the Academy Awards' efforts to remain relevant and appeal to younger audiences, not an actual announcement of MrBeast hosting.
