Why Trevor Sinclair is in Celtic Legends squad vs Liverpool Legends

Liverpool Legends take on Celtic Legends this afternoon, and there are one or two interesting squad selections.

The Reds, who will be managed by Sir Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush, John Barnes and John Aldridge, will have a star-stuffed squad to choose from for the friendly at Anfield.

Steven Gerrard, Steve McManaman, Ragnar Klavan, Martin Skrtel, Luis Garcia and Robbie Keane are just a number of players who will be involved this afternoon for Liverpool.

However, there will be no Jamie Carragher or Daniel Agger, after the duo withdrew from the Reds squad.

Celtic will also have plenty of familiar faces in their squad. The likes of Shay Given, Stiliyan Petrov, Joe Ledley and a host of others will be part of the squad that travel for the Scottish club.

Another player who will be involved for Celtic is Trevor Sinclair. However, bizarrely, the ex-forward has never played for Celtic in his career.

Sinclair, who played for the likes of Manchester City, West Ham and Queens Park Rangers in his career, has previously explained that he is a Celtic fan.

In a tweet going back to September 2016, Sinclair revealed why he supports Celtic. He wrote: “To all the people asking why I support Celtic? Only choice as my mum is from Sligo and my step dad is from Glasgow and a big fan.”

Despite professing his affection for Celtic, Sinclair has been known to still show support for one of his former clubs. Namely, Man City.

In December 2019, in response to a Man City win over Burnley - which saw Liverpool’s lead at the top of the Premier League reduced to eight points - Sinclair posted a tweet, which was later deleted, referring to Liverpool as “bin dippers”.

"Bin dippers we’re coming for you,” the original, now-deleted, tweet read. This was later followed by another tweet which said: "So sensitive...calm down you're still 8 points ahead".

This led to Sinclair issuing an apology for his remarks. “To any fan that was offended by what I wrote last night I apologise,” Sinclair said in December 2019. “It was a throw away line regarding closing the gap.

“It wasn’t my intention to offend anyone, especially from a social stance.

“I’m a working class lad and understand how it’s been taken. Sorry.”
