Why Spurs signed Spence
Tottenham's victory over Rangers highlighted exactly what Antonio Conte has tried to rid himself of this summer. The bloated state of his squad.
As Matt Doherty travelled to Scotland only to be the sole outfield player not to receive any minutes, with Emerson Royal and Lucas Moura used in the right wing-back spot instead, Spurs had four players in the squad that could play one position.
Although Royal doesn't look as natural as Spence or Doherty at wing-back, and Moura is more makeshift than anything, Conte did reveal his reasons for signing his sixth summer buy. Spence, the 21-year-old wouldn't have been watched much by his current manager but the Italian has already highlighted him as someone with 'great' potential.

Conte 'explains' absences
Spurs took a large 24-man squad to Ibrox for their match against Rangers and also boasted five of the six new summer signings, but there were still two more missing.
With Ben Davies and Oliver Skipp also missing the victory with injuries, whilst the exiled group of senior players including Tanguy Ndombele and Sergio Reguilon also remained in London.
The extra absences weren't explained by Conte, though the omissions did drop some key hints for the future of Troy Parrott and Harvey White.

Tielemans interest
Spurs have previously been linked with Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans, but the Belgian star could cost them up £120,000 a week in wages.
As Conte looks to add another midfielder to his squad, with Foxes teammate James Maddison also someone of interest to Spurs, Tielemans has been scouted out as a good fit for the Londoners by Paul Brown.
He said, "Conte has done quite a lot of retooling in attack and midfield, but I think he has some of the kind of qualities that would fit at Spurs. He has a good passing range and I think he’d get involved and be a good signing for them. But I think that would be the only other signing they make. They’d have to spend the rest of their budget to get him I think.”
