Why Titans might not wear Oilers throwbacks against Texans

Earlier this month, Tennessee Titans beat writer Jim Wyatt revealed that the team was planning on wearing their Houston Oilers throwbacks for a home game in 2023, and even went as far as to say he believed it could come against the Houston Texans.

Such a move would cause quite the stir with Texans fans, many of whom are not thrilled with the Titans owning Oilers history, even though, you know, the Titans were literally the Oilers at one point, and for two years after moving.

Titans beat writer Paul Kuharsky recently reported that the team wearing their Oilers throwbacks against the Texans is “still on the table,” although it hasn’t been confirmed.

However, Gallery Sports’ John McClain, a long-time Houston Chronicle writer who used to cover the beat for the Oilers, doesn’t think owner Amy Adams Strunk, who is the daughter of long-time owner Bud Adams, will decide to go that route out of respect for her home town.

That’s certainly very sound reasoning coming from a long-time reporter who knows as much about the Adams family as anyone out there.

Ruffling feathers like that doesn’t seem like something Adams Strunk would do, but as we’ve seen before when Wyatt speculates or makes anything close to a definitive statement about something, he’s often on the mark.

We won’t know for sure until the announcement is made, but there’s no doubt fans and media are rooting for the Titans to wear those beautiful throwbacks against the Texans, as it would bring a little extra juice to the game and rivalry overall.
