Police were called to reports of an assault in Barry on Saturday morning.
A large police presence was reported in Lewis Street, Barry, at around 9.30am but police said that after investigating they established that "an assault has not occurred".
Eyewitnesses reported seeomg several police vans, cars, and an ambulance parked in the street. The one-way street was also closed off for a time.
After the investigation a spokesman for South Wales Police said: "Officers had initially responded to a call made with good intent from a member of the public who thought they had witnessed the aftermath of an assault. But that was not the case."
