Why the Packers suspended Romeo Doubs for Sunday’s Week 5 Rams game

The Green Bay Packers will be without one of their top wide receivers on Sunday because of an in-house suspension.

The Packers suspended wideout Romeo Doubs for missing two practices this week ahead of Sunday’s away game against the Los Angeles Rams.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport added that “after a frustrating week, there’s an expectation things have moved in a positive direction and he will rejoin the team next week.”

Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst released a statement detailing why the decision was made to sit Doubs for a week.

“Unfortunately, we had to make the difficult decision to suspend Romeo for this week’s game,” Gutekunst said, via ESPN’s Adam Schefter. “His decisions and actions during the week negatively impacted the team and required us to take this action.

“While we are certainly disappointed, we are confident that we will be able to move forward in a positive manner. Romeo is a valuable member of our team and we look forward to welcoming him back next week.”

Sports Illustrated‘s Bill Huber reported that Doubs is unhappy with his role in the Packers’ offense. He has 12 catches for 169 yards and no touchdowns this season, though two of those games featured back-up QB Malik Willis starting in place of Jordan Love.

Despite the one-game suspension and reported frustration on Doubs’ part, CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones reported on Saturday that Green Bay has no intention of trading the wideout despite receiving interest from other teams.
