The Forehead Was Never Just a Forehead
Before it was fashion, before it was bridal, before a jeweller in Jaipur or Hyderabad ever set a polki stone into a chain, the centre of the forehead already meant something. In classical Indian thought, the point between the brows, the ajna, is where perception sharpens into something beyond the ordinary senses. The maang tikka does not sit there by accident. It was placed at the hairline, at the parting, at the precise line where a woman's face meets her self-definition. That placement is older than any wedding ritual it later got folded into.
