Every year, NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah does a conference call with media members around the time of the NFL Scouting Combine to give his thoughts on the draft class. He then followed it up with an article on one prospect per team that would be a perfect fit and thought Iowa State pass rusher Will McDonald would be a perfect fit for the Cleveland Browns in the 2023 NFL Draft. This will not happen.
Under the reign of general manager Andrew Berry, the Browns have set firm age guardrails around the players they select. And following a three-year trend, the Browns have never drafted a player over the age of 22 on draft day within the top 200 picks. Jordan Elliott is the oldest player Berry has selected within that guardrail, and he did not turn 23 until the midway point of his rookie season.
While Will McDonald is deserving of being a second round pick, he will not land in Cleveland. Until the Browns and Berry prove they are willing to do otherwise, scratch anyone over the age of 22 out of your mock draft for the Browns within the first five rounds.
