The Briefing

  • Grupo Televisa and Fintech Holdings have agreed to purchase AT&T's wireless operations in Mexico for $2 billion, forming an equal-stake consortium that vaults the broadcaster into the mobile sector with a fully funded national partner.
  • Scotiabank analysts project the acquisition will more than double Televisa's combined fixed and wireless subscriber share in Mexico — from 8% to roughly 19% — positioning the new entity as a structural challenge to Carlos Slim's América Móvil.
  • The deal requires Mexican regulatory approval and is expected to close in Q1 2027; AT&T will redirect the proceeds into its domestic fiber buildout, which targets more than 60 million U.S. locations before the decade ends.
