'Why take a step down': Newcastle United supporters' taunts after Bruno Guimaraes Liverpool link

Newcastle United supporters have poked fun at Liverpool after Bruno Guimaraes was linked with a move to Anfield. Chelsea and Real Madrid have also been linked with Brazilian since his move to St. James' Park last January.

Guimaraes has been one of the standout performers for Eddie Howe since arriving on Tyneside and his form has coincided with the Magpies' impressive start to the campaign. Newcastle are reportedly set to offer the midfielder a new deal to put off any potential suitors.

Once upon a time, the Toon had no choice but to sell their best players to the likes of Liverpool. Gini Wijnaldum and Andy Carroll were both big names who made their way to Anfield away from St. James' Park.

Jurgen Klopp's recent comments about Newcastle and their 'glass ceiling' did not go down well with the black and white fanbase. They've been quick to point that out and more in a social media post linking Guimaraes with the Reds.

Here's what Newcastle United supporters had to say on social media:

David Ross said: "Remember last year when everyone put there prices up to stop Newcastle buying good players. I would love to be a fly on the wall when they all try and by our players now."

Gareth Hedley said: "Why take a step down to Liverpool!?"

Alan Wears said: "He’s not going anywhere, he’s loved by us all. He will be playing Champions League with us soon."

Paul Jeffrey said: "I think Liverpool's ceiling isn't high enough."

Pimon Satter said: "He's the best midfielder in the league. We are the richest team in the world. Why would we sell him, and with the potential we are showing, why would he go? We are the future for exciting football, and Bruno sees the vision. So no need to worry!"

Dave Parker said: "We should be building a team around Bruno not selling at any price."

Les Welsh said: "Not Liverpool I thought they did not have the resources to compete with every other team in the Premiership? This is when we can tell if we have really moved on if we can stop the Scousers nicking our best players as they have for years. Now let’s see what happens."
