If you were wondering why there is a large police presence in Newcastle City Centre today, it's nothing to worry about.
The reason officers were positioned around Grey's Monument around lunch time on Thursday, October 6 is down to a Royal Visit. Prince Edward, King Charles III's youngest brother, came to the North East to thank people for their response to the Queen's death and funeral.
Officers were placed around Grey's Monument and Northumberland Street, making security checks and reassuring the public as to why they are there. Mounted police in dress uniform were happy for passersby to take photos of them outside Fenwick's on Northumberland Street.

Prince Edward met representatives from Northumbria Police, the North East Ambulance Service and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue service at Newcastle City Library, as well as people who helped arrange tributes in the North East for the late Queen Elizabeth II. He also met charity and community group volunteers for a coffee morning.
