KOLKATA: The tax-payers should not face unnecessary harassment for technical snags, said Justice Md Nizamuddin of Calcutta high court while speaking at a seminar organized by the the Direct Tax Profesionals' Association on Saturday.
The judge said that often there were changes of norms and as a result, assesses faced trouble . He wanted the government to improve the infrastructure for tax collection. Justice Nizamuddin also pointed out about problems related to GST.
Justice Harish Tandon, another judge of HC, said people had become accustomed with virtual mode during the pandemic and thus faceless appeals are becoming a success. According to him, tax professionals have a vital role to play in tax compliance.
Khalid A Anwar, commissioner of state GST, explained issues related to GST. Advocates Narayan Jain, N G Khaitan and Kapil Goel discussed several tax-related problems and recent HC orders.
