Ralf Rangnick has confirmed Scott McTominay has been forced to miss Manchester United's match on Wednesday through illness.
United play Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
Rangnick has started Fred, Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes in a 4-3-3 in the Reds' midfield to take on the La Liga champions.
McTominay started against Leeds at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon, however, the midfielder was a notable omission when United's team news was announced and Rangnick has now revealed why he's been sidelined.
"He's [McTominay] ill unfortunately," Rangnick told MUTV.
"I spoke with him this afternoon and he's still not feeling well. We had a little bit of hope that he might be available.
"So we needed to find the best possible formation and line-up without Scott."
United play Atletico in the second leg of the tie on Tuesday, March 15.
