Why Real Madrid could 'drop' Aurelien Tchouameni for Liverpool Champions League clash

Real Madrid are reportedly facing a major selection dilemma ahead of the clash against Liverpool.

The Reds take on Madrid in their last-16 tie of the Champions League, with the first leg at Anfield next week. It will see Liverpool face the Spanish club less than a year after their defeat in the final in Paris last May.

Liverpool welcome Madrid to Anfield next Tuesday, before the return visit to the Santiago Bernabeu takes place on March 15. The Reds have failed to win any of their last six meetings with the La Liga giants, with their last victory coming back in 2009.

With both clubs in domestic action this weekend, Spanish news outlet AS have reported on the dilemmas that Madrid are facing ahead of the clash against Liverpool. One of them concerns midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.

It was well documented last summer that Liverpool were interested in signing the France international from Monaco. In the end, Tchouameni signed for Madrid in a deal that could reach up to £85m with add-ons

However, it has been reported that Carlo Ancelotti could drop Tchouameni for the first leg against Liverpool. The article states that the midfielder’s form this season means that he may be dropped for the clash at Anfield.

As a result, the report says that Madrid could turn to Eduardo Camavinga instead. While it has also been claimed that at least one of Federico Valverde, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Dani Ceballos, Tchouameni or Camavinga will not feature against Liverpool, with Ancelotti left with a big decision to make.
