Why Raul Jimenez left Wolves supporters furious after Arsenal secured late Premier League win

Wolves striker Raul Jimenez left supporters perplexed on Thursday night as he was pictured taking photographs with home supporters following Arsenal’s victory at the Emirates.

The Mexican striker was thrown a phone from the home end and proceeded to take selfies with a couple of fans, despite his side having been on the wrong end of a dramatic 2-1 scoreline - Alexandre Lacazette forcing Jose Sa to parry into his own net late on.

Whilst it remains to be seen whether the fans were of an Arsenal persuasion, it is clear that they were a big fan of the Wolves frontman, as they pulled out a Mexico flag.

Some Wolves fans were left furious, with many taking to Twitter to express their thoughts.

Here are just selection of their thoughts:

@capzwwfc : “If I could trade in my Raul Jimenez for a Neto one is that possible?”

@andybulluk : “Sorry @Raul_Jimenez9 this is unacceptable straight after a loss of such magnitude and in the way we lost in such an important game, I don't care if they have the Mexican flag they are Arsenal fans”

@youraight : “@RaulJimenez get out my club”

Whilst supporters of the Black Country outfit have been left stewing over Jimenez’s decision to treat some of the home crowd to a few photographs, it appears likely that the 30-year-old was instead thinking of his country’s loyalties slightly more at the time.

So far throughout his career, Jimenez has made 91 appearances for the Mexican national side and scored 27 goals.

The fury from Wolves fans topped a disappointing night for the former Benfica and Atletico Madrid man.

Not only did his side relinquish what could be a vital victory in the race for Champions League football, he struggled to impose himself on the game with just two shots - both of them failing to hit the target, according to WhoScored.
