Why protestor attached himself to goalpost during Everton against Newcastle United

Everton's crunch Premier League clash with Newcastle United was interrupted for over five minutes on Thursday evening after a fossil fuel protestor attached himself to a goalpost.

The incident occurred in the 50th minute of the match at the Gwladys Street end goalmouth, when a young adult male ran onto the pitch and tied himself to Asmir Begovic' goalpost by tightening a plastic zip-tie tightly around his neck.

After stewards failed to removed the zip-tie from the man's throat another member of staff arrived on the pitch with a pair of giant bolt-cutters in an attempt to free the protester.
