Why Piers Morgan has criticised Earl Spencer ahead of new memoir release

  • Earl Spencer has claimed in his new memoir that broadcaster Piers Morgan "snarled with annoyance" when he was asked not to attend Princess Diana 's funeral in 1997.
  • The Earl personally telephoned tabloid newspaper editors to request they refrain from attending his sister’s service at Westminster Abbey .
  • The memoir, titled Swan Song: Diana, My Sister , also alleges that King Charles sounded "giddily elated" after Diana died and said she would soon be forgotten; Buckingham Palace has said that the pain of grief can cloud reason and memory.
  • Piers Morgan responded on social media by accusing Earl Spencer of hypocrisy for criticising the press while treating the King malignantly during his cancer treatment.
  • Morgan has also threatened to take legal action against the Earl over the claims.
