Why Phil Foden’s horse made history at Goodwood amid major upset

  • Wreck It Ronnie, part-owned by Manchester City player Phil Foden , secured a 10-1 victory at Goodwood in the Cleansing Service Group Novice Stakes.
  • The result caused a major upset by making 1-33 favourite Najidi Storm the shortest-priced loser in British horse racing history.
  • Trained by Charlie Pike and ridden by jockey Kieren Fox, Wreck It Ronnie led from the front to seal the historic win.
  • Najidi Storm broke the previous record for the shortest-priced defeat, jointly held by Doom in 2023 and Royal Forest in 1948 at odds of 1-25.
  • Bookmakers reported that the outcome was still a liability for them as many punters backed Wreck It Ronnie against the odds-on favourite.
