New Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Myles Jack almost made a drastic career change before signing with the reigning NFC winners.
Jack and former Tennessee Titans linebacker Zach Cunningham signed with the Eagles this week and figure to both play roles on Philly’s defense this fall. However, Jack almost made a different decision for himself this offseason.
Per The Athletic’s Zach Berman, Jack almost considered going to a trade school to learn to be an electrician or a plumber.
While Jack has made multiple NFL stops and likely doesn’t need the money, he said that he likes to stay busy and wanted to make sure he had a backup option in case things didn’t work out with football.
“I like to work. I couldn’t sit at home,” Jack told Berman. “I’ve been blessed to make a lot of money. I could retire and sit at the house. …I want to be innovative. If a zombie apocalypse came, I want to be able to build something.”

Can you blame a guy for wanting to make sure he’s got something else ready to go if the NFL wasn’t to be this fall? Jack is only 27, so he’s got plenty of time left in professional football if he keeps playing at a high level.
However, it does sound like he’s plenty fine with an early football retirement and has plenty he wants to accomplish once his playing days are over.
We just hope, y’know, prepping for a zombie apocalypse will not be on anyone’s list of things to get ready for in the future.
