Why Man United have left Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo out of Europa League squad

Manchester United have confirmed their squad for the Europa League group stages, with Tyrell Malacia included as he looks to put his injury nightmare before him.

Erik ten Hag’s side finished eighth in the Premier League last season but qualified for the Europa League as a result of their FA Cup final win over Manchester City.

They will face eight teams in the new league phase of the competition, starting at home to Twente before trips to take on Porto and Fenerbahce, managed by former United boss Jose Mourinho.

United will then take on PAOK, Bodo/Glimt, Viktoria Plzen, Rangers and FCSB.

Malacia has not played a match for 15 months but has been named in the Europa League squad, suggesting United are hopeful he will soon return to fitness having missed the entirety of last season after knee surgery.

Casemiro has also been included, despite recent reports linking him with a move to Galatasaray, while new signing Manuel Ugarte also features.

Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho have not been named in the 25-man squad, but will be included in the club’s List B.

Players that have been at the club for at least two years and born on or after 1 January 2003 are eligible to feature on List B, making room for others to be included on List A.

Harry Amass is only 17 but has been named in the main squad as he only arrived from Watford last year.

Man United squad for Europa League:

Goalkeepers: Andre Onana, Altay Bayindir, Tom Heaton, Dermot Mee

Defenders: Harry Amass, Diogo Dalot, Matthijs De Ligt, Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, Noussair Mazraoui, Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro

Midfielders: Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount, Manuel Ugarte

Forwards: Amad, Antony, Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford, Joshua Zirkzee
