What does a truly free person look like? You might expect Krishna to give Arjuna a clear list of qualities, habits or behaviours. But the answer becomes far more surprising. In the philosophical dialogue of the Bhagavad Gita, Arjuna asks Krishna how one can recognise a person who has gone beyond the three gunas, the qualities of material nature. Krishna’s teaching points to a deeper truth: when someone is genuinely free from being controlled by fixed qualities, it becomes difficult to define that person through a simple checklist.
