President Donald Trump’s decision to kill Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a joint US–Israeli strike has reshaped the Middle East geopolitical landscape overnight.

Trump framed the killing in sweeping historical terms. Calling Khamenei “one of the most evil people in history,” he urged Iranians to “take over your government,” declaring that “the hour of your freedom is at hand”.
