Why Kai Havertz was fuming before stunning Chelsea goal and Cesar Azpilicueta's joy vs Salzburg

Chelsea sealed their qualification into the last-16 of the Champions League and their place as Group E winners thanks to their 2-1 victory over Red Bull Salzburg while AC Milan comfortably dispatched Dinamo Zagreb. The Blues will welcome the Croatian side to Stamford Bridge with little on the line but perhaps hoping for revenge after defeat in the opening game of the competition in September which was Thomas Tuchel's final match.

Tuesday night saw stunning goals from Mateo Kovacic and Kai Havertz separate Chelsea from their Austrian opponents as Graham Potter sprung some surprises, and the Blues rode out some difficult moments on their way to three points.

It will be a relief for the west London side who opened the campaign with a loss and a draw before recording consecutive victories over AC Milan, while Potter extends his unbeaten run as Chelsea head coach. All in all, a good night's work for the Blues ahead of this weekend's match against Brighton.

With that said, football.london takes a look back at the moments you may have missed from the win over Salzburg.

Kai Havertz's fury

It has been a difficult start to the season for Havertz who, since Potter's arrival, has had to spend more time on the bench than he perhaps would have liked. The German forward has struggled to find the role he can thrive in for the Blues being utilised both to lead Chelsea's forward line and to support it - having mixed success in both positions.

While the Club World Cup winners were ahead in the first half, they were racking up missed chances too and unable to prevent the feeling that Salzburg were still very much in the game. Chelsea were playing some of their best football of the season too however, but just couldn't apply the finishing touches to reward their moves.

In once instance Trevoh Chalobah released Conor Gallagher down the line before the Cobham graduate sent in an impressive floated ball across goal for Havertz to rise high. The delivery was screaming out to be placed in the goal but Havertz could only glance it into the ground and into the goalkeeper's arms, in a move that looked more difficult than generating the power to send ripples through the net.

Havertz was more annoyed than anyone, castigating himself and kicking the post as he played through what had just happened. Fortunately, within 45 minutes his attitude would be turned around thanks to a very different outcome.

Mason Mount and Graham Potter share a joke

In the second period, Havertz kept things simple, albeit with some outrageous ability. Christian Pulisic played the ball into his German teammate, and the former Bayer Leverkusen star simply took a touch to draw the ball across his body before unleashing a quality strike from the edge of the box to re-establish Chelsea's lead in the tie.

There was no denying the joy on the pitch and the sideline were just as happy. Potter raised his arms in the air in his technical area and could only turn and smile at Mason Mount who was also beaming. The head coach appeared to share a couple of words to spark a laugh between the pair in a very wholesome moment as the Chelsea squad celebrated.

Full time jubilation

Chelsea were clearly happy to come away with their three points against Salzburg, and those who had been in the dugout were quick to come on the pitch at full time to congratulate Havertz for his game-winning effort. Ben Chilwell in particular seemed to take a moment with his teammate to encourage him following his efforts.

Azpilicueta seemed to be the biggest personality on the pitch after the referee's whistle however. The Chelsea captain was absolutely beaming and was almost bouncing to each of his teammates as the significance of the result and progression seemed far from lost on him.

Given the veteran appeared to want to leave in the summer, he seems no less committed to seeing Chelsea succeed after extending his deal and still has the leadership credentials and enthusiasm to help drive the team.
