The absence of Vera from ITV schedules on Sunday caused some unrest amongst fans of the much loved drama, as it was replaced by another detective series.
Just as viewers were getting used to having Vera back to round off their weekends, DCI Stanhope bid farewell once again on February 19, with the sixth new episode of 2023, The Darkest Evening. The two hour tale was certainly gripping viewing, especially the bit when it looked like Vera could be a goner, as she fell to the ground after shots were fired and blood poured from her head.
Thankfully, she had only bumped her head on a wall in shock and lived to solve another mystery. However, we don't know exactly when she will be back in action as Vera wasn't on this Sunday and won't be back with another new instalment in the anytime in the near future.

And that's because Vera's latest run is now over, with the third and final series of Inspector Morse spin-off Endeavour replaced it in the schedules.
Vera being missing in action was not something that went down well with fans, with one taking to Twitter to post: " Sunday nights won’t be the same without watching our lovely Vera being on hope you do more episodes of Vera as is the best show ever." Also left with a Vera shaped void in their Sunday evening, a second tweeted: "Gutted no #Vera on a Sunday now... Will have to watch from series one again."
And referencing a certain football match, another Vera fan wrote: " No #Vera tonight on @ITV She must be away to #Wembley with the rest of her countrymen."
While Vera wasn't on on Sunday, and there has been no confirmation of a 13th series as yet, it looks set to be back on screen again this year after leading lady Brenda Blethyn revealed that a 'special' episode, an adaptation of Ann Cleeves' The Rising Tide, had already been filmed.
