Why is Loose Women not on? ITV show shelved in schedule shake-up

Loose Women will not return to our screens just yet.

The ITV daytime series, alongside Lorraine Kelly's popular show, will remain off-air today [September 12] following the death of Queen Elizabeth II last week and the coronation of the new Head of State, King Charles III.

Although This Morning with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield aired as usual earlier today, Loose Women has been shelved once again, as ITV - alongside other broadcasters - continue to focus on the death of the Queen and show special news segments remembering the late monarch.

Following the announcement from Buckingham Palace confirming the news on Thursday [September 8], This Morning, Loose Women and soaps Emmerdale and Coronation Street were all pulled from the schedule as the nation entered an official period of mourning for the late Queen.

Earlier today, Lorraine remained dropped from ITV's line-up, with Good Morning Britain airing for four hours instead, with presenters Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard leading the sombre broadcast in the wake of the Queen's death.

Good Morning Britain was followed by a special news segment, which presented The King’s Tour – Westminster, before going on to show a special edition of This Morning at 11am, in which host Holly shared how she broke the news of the Queen's death to her three children.

In Loose Women's usual timeslot, ITV began to air a second ITV News Special, Queen Elizabeth II: Lying At Rest, which will continue throughout the afternoon.

ITV plans to return to normal programming over the next few days to provide viewers with the variety of shows that they expect to see on the main ITV channel.

In addition to the usual schedule, the broadcaster will be airing a number of documentaries about the Queen and the new King over the coming days, as the nation prepares for the late monarch's funeral on September 19.

ITV's schedule for the rest of the day is as follows:

1300 ITV News Special: Queen Elizabeth II: Lying At Rest
1630 Tipping Point: Best Ever Finals
1700 The Chase
1800 Regional News
1830 ITV Evening News
2000 Coronation Street
2100 The Suspect
