Why is Duolingo melting? Language app displays unusual logo

Duolingo, the popular language-learning app, appears to have developed an interesting new feature, according to some users.

Social media has been alight with language learners claiming their Duolingo app is literally "melting".

Duolingo is usually represented by the logo of a green owl, which was initially chosen as a joke, because the brand's co-founder allegedly hated the colour green.

However, according to some app users, the well-known Duolingo owl logo now looks like it's starting to melt.

According to some insiders at the language app, this is actually a clever ploy to encourage people to click on the app and learn.

So let's explore what's happening with Duolingo and why its creative team created a melting logo.

What is Duolingo?

Duolingo is a free mobile app that helps users learn and practice more than 40 separate languages through its platform.

The popular app encourages people to learn a new language in bite-sized sections, offering interactive classes and simple tasks designed to improve language skills.

According to the App Store, it's the world’s most downloaded education app.

How does Duolingo work?

Duolingo is free to download on any smartphone device and very simple to use. It can also be downloaded onto your desktop.

Once in the app, users can select which language they want to learn and go through a number of speaking, listening, reading, and writing exercises.

The app will also track your progress, and encourage you to try a little bit of practice every day.

Each skill in the app contains five levels that are broken down into a number of lessons. The app will mark the completion of each lesson, allowing you to monitor your progress.

Why is Duolingo melting?

Naturally, some of Duolingo's users are curious why the app's logo appears to have started to melt.

According to the Duolingo website, its developers have also acknowledged that the logo looks quite different this week, writing: "Our mascot owl, Duo, is trading in his usual diet of mice for bugs this week. Yup, we're squashing those pesky bugs to make the experience better for all of you."

Duolingo insiders also revealed that the unusual logo is a way to encourage people to update the app to its latest version, as there are some new updates to explore.

A Duolingo spokesperson told Distractify: "The melting Duo you see is a new app icon that learners will see for a limited time. If learners have the latest version of the Duolingo app downloaded, they should see melting Duo as the app icon. The purpose of the new app icon is to encourage learners to open the app."

How to download Duolingo

Duolingo is available for download on Apple and Android mobile devices as well as desktop devices.

To download the app, you simply need to go to the app store and search for Duolingo.

Those who don't have the latest version of the app can also update existing versions in order to see the melting owl logo.
