DEHRADUN: Former chief minister Harish Rawat, along with several senior Congress members, visited Gairsain on Thursday and held a protest in front of the sub-district magistrate office. Congress members accused the BJP government of failing to fulfill the promises made to Gairsain and its people.
In March 2020, the BJP government had announced Gairsain as the summer capital of Uttarakhand. The Congress leaders claimed that despite announcing Gairsain as the summer capital, the government is neither interested in holding an assembly session nor deploying officials in the city. “What is the point of making Gairsain the summer capital when neither the ruling party members nor the state bureaucrats are interested in coming to this part of the state,” said Harish Rawat.
He pointed out that this year’s budget session was to be held at Gairsain but the venue was later shifted to Dehradun. “The government should tell people what all has been done to develop the area since it was made the summer capital. No development is visible on the ground. If the assembly session is not held here, the government doesn't even care to deploy officials here,” said Rawat.
