Why I'm A Celebrity's Boy George is allowed to customise his camp uniform

It's been revealed why Boy George looks different from other stars in the first promo image for this year's series of I'm a Celebrity....Get Me Out of Here!

The ITV show hasn't even started yet but everyone is already talking about Boy George, as he joins the likes of Chris Moyles, Love Island star Olivia Attwood and royal Mike Tindall preparing themselves for a stint in the Australian jungle.

The former Culture Club singer, 61, has made a couple of style statements ahead of the show kicking off on Sunday, November 6, at 9pm, with a 105 minute special - arriving at Brisbane Airport wearing wearing a lion mask and joking: "I'm here to a version of The Lion queen, I don't know what you are talking about darling!"

As the full line-up posed together for the first official group shot for this year's series of I'm a Celebrity, fans spotted how Boy George stood out like a sore thumb thanks to the Karma Chameleon rocking a unique spotted jacket and crown-shaped hat.

As the rest of the celebrity campers kept things simple in the mandatory I'm a Celebrity uniform consisting of red trousers and green khaki shirts, many wondered why the singer - real name George Alan O’Dowd - had been allowed to customise his kit.

But the reason why Boy George was able to put his own stamp on the uniform is very simple.

Speaking to the Metro, a TV insider revealed how the singer asked ITV if he was able to adapt his shirt for the photoshoot and TV bosses were happy to let the star get creative.

George's crown-shaped hat seen in the promotional image could be a nod to the singer's desire to be crowned King of the Jungle this year.

"King of the jungle, how fabulous would that be? I want to be the Harry Redknapp of my generation," the star admitted as his appearance on the ITV show was confirmed last week.

Boy George's attitude to the series has changed since earlier this year, when the singer boasted how he has earned more than enough money to never have to appear on the reality TV show.

The star made an appearance of Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway in April this year and told the Geordie Duo not to expect him in the jungle at time soon.

An eye-watering fee may have been the reason behind the singer's change of heart, with the star reportedly earning a £500,000 for agreeing to slum it in the jungle as the show returns to Australia for the first time since 2019.

I'm a Celebrity is set to kick off with a mammoth episode this weekend as the jungle shenanigans begin.

The long-running ITV show starts on Sunday, November 6, at 9pm, with a 105 minute special, which we will see the celebs explain why they have signed up.

Ant and Dec are then poised to set a series of challenges for them to make their way into the jungle camp near the town of Murwillumbah in New South Wales.
