Why hundreds of attractions in England are offering free entry in September

  • Founded in 1994, England's largest festival of history and culture aims to make heritage sites and tourist attractions more accessible to the public.
  • This year's festival embraces the theme Everyday Histories, with flagship events at locations including Norwich Cathedral and Newcastle's Grainger Market.
  • Hundreds of National Trust properties, including Cliveden House, Beningbrough Hall and Lindisfarne Castle, are offering free admission on selected days.
  • National Trust audience director Annie Reilly stated that the festival helps millions discover local heritage and builds a stronger connection for the future.
