Prominent supporters group the Holmesdale Fanatics announced an end to all organised activity inside the stadium after more than 20 years.
The ultras group cited high ticket prices, excessive restrictions, and supporter harassment among their reasons for stepping down.
Sage had previously highlighted Palace's unique ultra culture as one of the key reasons behind his decision to join the club.
Despite the group's absence, Selhurst Park provided a rousing atmosphere and a warm welcome for the new manager.
