Why HMS Dragon has docked after being sent to Cyprus to protect UK air bases

  • HMS Dragon, a Royal Navy destroyer deployed to protect British air bases in Cyprus amid the Iran conflict, has docked in the Mediterranean following technical issues.
  • The Ministry of Defence stated the Type 45 vessel remains capable of sailing at short notice "if required".
  • An MoJ spokesperson said the move will allowing the ship to “take onboard provisions, optimise systems and conduct maintenance.
  • They added that Britain will continues to maintain a “robust and layered defensive presence in the eastern Mediterranean, working in coordination with allies”.
  • Earlier, Britain called on Donald Trump on Tuesday to retract his alarming threat to "wipe out a whole civilisation," as a critical deadline approached for Iran regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
