Why Giants absolutely must start faster in 2024

The New York Giants finished 6-11 in 2023 after a 9-8 campaign in 2022. They have been notoriously slow starters in their games, getting behind early and playing from behind most of the time.

A recent analysis by Warren Sharp revealed that the Giants scored first in just 11 of their 34 regular season games over the past two seasons, a trend that Sharp accurately contends leads to more losses than wins.

As you can see, the more successful teams are at the top of the list when it comes to scoring first.

Scoring in general was a problem for the Giants last season. They averaged just 15.6 points per game. Only Carolina and New England averaged less.

They averaged 6.6 points in the first half of games last year, which was next to last in the NFL, and were dead last in first-quarter points scored (1.5).

The Giants were shut out once last year and scored 10 or fewer points in seven of their 17 contests.

Moving the football was also an issue. Their 280.0 yards per game on offense was 29th in the league.
