Why England fans could be fined £5,000 ahead of France World Cup quarter-final clash

England fans have been warned that they could face a £5,000 fine should they get carried away with their celebrations in the wake of the Three Lions' quarter final clash with France.

Passionate fans have been warned of the fine, which could be handed out to motorists who choose to play loud music from their car. It is not just football fans who have been warned, with a reminder that all motorists could face the fine should they be playing too much loud music on their journeys over the festive season.

Famous songs such as Three Lions, Vindaloo and World In Motion all have huge appeal during such major tournaments, and with free-scoring England flying, fans have been warned not to make their celebrations too exuberant and to focus on the road at all times.

CEO of Lotus Car Rental, Alexander Haraldsson has made the warning, making it clear to fans that rules of the road still apply even when celebrating the success of their national team.

He said: “As we saw last year during Euro 2020, the outpour of support from England fans across the country was incredible and as we progress through the knockout stages of the World Cup, the excitement is intensifying.

“While it may be tempting to increase the volume of your favourite England tracks in the car it is crucial to ensure you are fully focused on the road when driving. By maintaining your concentration you’ll avoid increasing the chance of an accident, as well as a hefty fine.

"Although you cannot be pulled over for playing loud music, if police officers believe it is causing a distraction such as blocking out audible safety warnings from other road users like their horns or an ambulance siren then they can penalise you."

England play France on Saturday, December 10 hoping that they can defeat the world champions and reach the semi-finals of the World Cup for the second successive tournament.
