Age-related hearing loss is a very common occurrence in people over the age of 60. It is a gradual process where, just like the other body parts, hearing undergoes a significant transformation. There is a certain degree of degeneration in the inner ear and the nerve pathways leading to the brain, which result in a decreased hearing ability. Due to this, one in three adults over the age of 65 experience some degree of hearing loss.
As per the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, almost 5% of adults between the age group of 45–54 are susceptible to some degree of hearing loss. It keeps increasing at the rate of 10% hearing loss in adults belonging to the age group of 55–64, followed by 22% in those between 65 and 74 years old, and ultimately a 55% probability for those above the age of 75.
