'Why do people park like this?' - but there's backing for Audi driver who parked across two spaces

With parking spaces often at a premium it can be more than a little frustrating to find one car using two. So when a passer-by noticed this Audi hogging a duo of bays outside a row of shops they took to Facebook with a question many people ask.

The poster asked fellow Facebook users on the Spotted Birstall page: "Why do people park like this?" And unsurprisingly there were plenty of comments with other users looking to answer.

However while many motorists gave the expected criticism over the behaviour it wasn't all a one way streak. There was plenty of support for the driver who said it might not have been their fault, reports LeicestershireLive.

The vehicle was spotted outside the shops in Wanlip Lane, Birstall, this week. Commenting on the 'I'm Alright Jack' driver, the asked: "Why do people park like this? Genuine question, is it for a particular reason or is it just ignorance?"

Many of the responses were split however. And while some vented their frustrations on the Audi driver others blamed other motorists.

Some were keen to suggest, unkindly, that 'ignorance came as part of the territory' of owning an Audi. They suggesting it was "typical behaviour" of owners of the German car.

One said: "It’s called a complete lack of consideration! I’d stick a wheel clamp on it and a £100 fine." Another added: "It’s a convertible And an Audi…….says it all."

However, one person thought it was not just Audi drivers, but many others. He commented: "Unfortunately this is the attitude of the modern driver. I see this a lot these days everywhere."

Others were quick to defend the driver, saying he or she might have a valid reason for the positioning of their car. One said: "Might have had a baby car seat. Can’t physically get them back into the car if you park in a regular space."

Another said: "Maybe the car that was next to him didn't park properly." A third comment, in defence of the motorist, read: "Might have been car over lines before he got there."
