Cyber attacks are everywhere, and changing everything. No longer limited to attackers in dingy backrooms and internet users on their online equivalent, hacks are hitting everyone from individuals to the worlds biggest companies.
The last year has seen huge hacks in the UK, of everything from high street shops such as Marks & Spencer to internationally important companies such as Jaguar Land Rover.
Those attacks don’t only stay in the computer: those hacks, and many others, shut down companies in ways that could substantially change the lives of shoppers, workers and the whole economy.
But while the effects of the cyber attacks are deep and wide-ranging, the actual attacks themselves can be relatively simple. They can start with something as innocent-seeming as someone clicking a wrong link – but very quickly take down entire companies and damage whole industries.
The first video in our Cyber Smart series, presented in collaboration with security firm Bitdefender, looks at why those hacks happen – and how we could help stop them in the future.
