Sir Keir Starmer has announced he will step down as the MP for Holborn and St Pancras, a move that will trigger a by-election in the London constituency.
The former prime minister left No 10 in July after 23 months in power, in the wake of Labour’s record local election losses and mounting pressure from his own MPs, and returned to the backbenches.
