David Beckham has once again been overlooked by the latest New Year's Honours list, despite being expected to receive a knighthood for his service to sport and charities.
The former England captain had his chances of getting a knighthood threatened for almost a decade after he was linked to a tax avoidance scheme, but he has since been given the all-clear over the financial issues.
Fans have now been left scratching their heads as to why he's missed out yet again on an invite to Buckingham Palace.
David was expected to be made a Sir back in 2014 after devoting his time to charities such as UNICEF and helping with the London 2012 Olympics.
However, the 47-year-old was one of a number of celebrities caught up in the Ingenious tax avoidance scheme in 2013 and was therefore deemed ineligible for the honour.
Those linked to such a scheme, or who have any irregularities in their financial history, are given a 'red warning' by the officials who put together the honours list.
They are then removed from the nominations process and barred from receiving recognition.
It was later reported that David had been moved to the official recommendations list after outstanding issues with HM Revenue and Customs were resolved.
There was said to be no suggestion of any wrongdoing on the part of those who invested in the Ingenious Media scheme.
In emails leaked in 2017, Beckham apparently told his long-time PR man Simon Oliveira that "everything is above board."
In the messages, which were published by Football Leaks, David allegedly made his feelings clear after being left off the 2014 honours list.
It is claimed he called the honours committee "unappreciative c***s" and branded the system "a f**king joke", adding he didn’t "care about being knighted".
It was also alleged he wrote: "I expected nothing less. It's a disgrace to be honest and if I was American, I would of got something like this 10 years ago."
When Simon suggested he donate $1million to a UNICEF event, David is said to have responded: "The f**king money is mine."
At the time, Beckham's rep said the emails had been "doctored".
They told the Daily Mail: "This story is based on outdated material taken out of context from hacked and doctored private emails from a third-party server and gives a deliberately inaccurate picture."
David was also alleged to have questioned why singer Katherine Jenkins had been given an OBE for, "singing at the rugby and going to see the troops plus taking coke. F**king joke".
In response, Katherine's spokesperson said the singer was awarded the honour for her services to charity and music.
Her manager, Professor Jonathan Shalit, told The Sun: "With regards to the taking of coke which Katherine has courageously publicly admitted with great honesty - this was when she was in her early 20s still studying, over a decade before she was awarded her OBE and started her recording career."
